Kivra Illustration System

About
Kivra is a Swedish service that provides a safe space for people to receive, organize, share, and store their most important things. Users can gather mail, access receipts, set up reminders, pay bills, and manage their documents seamlessly across devices, whether on their phones, tablets, or desktops.

Today, more than half of Sweden’s population uses Kivra, with over 45,000 companies sending essential content through it.

My role
As a Product Illustrator on the Design System Team, I worked on the new illustration style, created user-centered illustrations aligned with the branding, developed a system and made them available in a library for the whole company to use.

The missing piece

When Kivra rebranded, they needed illustrations to complete their visual assets. The main goal of these illustrations was to help visualise the new tone of voice and enhance the experience of their 6+ million users.

The illustrations eventually spread everywhere, from coffee machines to social media, and even unexpectedly appeared on a car. Today, illustration plays an important role in Kivra's communication and culture.

Portraying people

When crafting the style we wanted it to be fun and bold, both informative and emotional, one that represented Peace of Mind, but most importantly, it needed to capture everyday life in Sweden and create a welcoming experience where people feel seen and represented in the visual communication.

By portraying diverse human characteristics, families, professions, and cultural expressions, Kivra's illustrations aim to foster a sense of belonging and representation. It’s an ongoing challenge, and one that we continuously refine to be even more inclusive.

Right now, Kivra’s illustration library is packed with over 300 illustrations and 400 pictograms. As much as I’d love to show them all off here, I’ve handpicked a few favorites to share.

Behind the scenes

To support all these illustrations, there’s a carefully structured and surprisingly complex system and library (because without it, things would quickly spiral into chaos).

The system is designed to be scalable, consistent, and accessible, not just for designers and developers, but for anyone at Kivra. From sales to reception to user support, everyone can easily access and use the illustrations for presentations, posters, or anything else that comes to mind.
